About Tracey

Tracey Watters is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists.
Clinical Psychologists are trained in diagnosis, assessment and treatment of all Mental Health Problems.
Tracey has an Associate Degree in Social Science, an Honour's Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology.
Tracey is fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and is a member of the EMDRIA and EMDRAA (International and National associations of EMDR therapists). This is a therapy particularly relevant to clients with any kind of Post-Traumatic Stress.
Prior to becoming a Psychologist Tracey worked in a domestic violence service. She also worked in a mental health service for people at risk of homelessness. When completing her Honours degree, her thesis was on attitudes towards homelessness.
Tracey has maintained this interest and currently sees clients referred under the Victims Of Crime Scheme. She works extensively with clients who have experienced domestic violence, trauma, and the impacts of sexual assault. For more information see: http://www.victimsservices.justice.nsw.gov.au/
Tracey is also trained in Schema Therapy and will complete her internationally recognised qualifications in this therapy in late 2019. This type of therapy is excellent for clients with a trauma history, or with personality disorders. Similarly, she is also trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for clients with complex cases.
Tracey has also trained with Drs John and Julie Gottman and is a Certified Level 2 Gottmans' Couple therapist.
Also, during her University training she had the opportunity to complete an internship in a Multidisciplinary Pain Clinic and has maintained an interest in working with clients who experience Chronic Pain. Tracey completed her Masters’ thesis on the role of chronic pain in time lost from work after work related injury.
Tracey also completed an internship in Family and Community Services and has maintained an interest in working with children and adolescents with high needs. She has previously provided a consultancy to local primary schools, and has seen children and adolescents for assessment and diagnosis as well as therapy. Tracey also spent a year working at Port Macquarie Headspace.
Tracey is also trained to work with children using non-directive play therapy for the very young, as well as cognitive behaviour therapy, play and art therapy for older children and teens.
In Coffs Harbour in recent years, Tracey was attached to the University Of New South Wales as a Research Assistant, and contributed to several publications exploring smoking cessation and smoking in the indigenous community. As a part of this role she also ran a “ Quit Café” and a “Give up the Smokes” Programme aimed at helping people to give up smoking.
Tracey also enjoys sharing her knowledge and therapeutic skills with indigenous clients.
